Create impactful montages using StoryTagger's built-in editor

Updated over 10 months ago

Montages are a great way to bring multiple voices together to land key themes, show diversity of perspectives and connect with people emotionally.

You can now create impressive montages simply and directly within StoryTagger. This step-by-step guide introduces how to get started.

Step one - Open the Montage studio

You'll find Montage studio on the Stories tab within your campaign. Tap this button to open the studio.

Step two - Create montage or view existing

Create and download as many montages as you need for each campaign - just work on one montage at a time and make sure you download your completed montage before starting the next.

When you tap the Montage Studio button, you’ll see two options for starting your edit:

  • Create montage provides a blank workspace for producing a brand new montage using story parts from the current campaign.

  • View existing opens the last saved version of your montage.

Important: Montages are shared assets, and all curators within your organisation can create, edit and delete montages. Please make sure you have workflows that prevent accidental changes.

Step three - Navigating Montage studio

The Montage Studio Editor makes it simple and quick to achieve impressive results without needing any prior video editing experience.

These are the key features you use:

1. Search by keyword or topic
Use the search bar to easily find the most impactful story parts for your montage. Whether you're focusing on specific topics or voices, this feature helps you quickly locate the right content to craft a compelling overall narrative.

2. Streamline your workflow with focused editing
Hide unselected parts to focus on the story elements you’ve chosen. This feature simplifies the editing process, allowing you to re-order parts efficiently.

3. Preview and download
Before finalising your montage, StoryTagger renders a full preview so you can review and make sure you're happy with the flow. In just a few minutes, you’ll have a polished, ready-to-download montage showcasing multiple voices for impact.

4. Select and organise with ease
It's simple to add story parts to your montage. Just check the box or open in the editor by tapping on the thumbnail. Re-order parts by dragging and dropping. This flexibility lets you structure your montage in the way that will best resonate with your audience.

5. Fine-tune story parts
A colour thumbnail means a part is selected for you to preview and trim. See exactly how each part flows by using the part preview feature. This allows for smooth adjustments along the way.

6 + 7. Precise start and end cues for efficient editing
Set exactly where you want each part to begin and end by using the easy-to-drag start and end cue points Each action shows an instant preview, helping you quickly zero in on the most relevant moments, speeding up your editing process.

8. Return to stories screen
Finished editing or need a break? Simply close the montage studio and return to your stories screen, with all your progress saved.

Step four: Previewing your montages

The Montage Studio Preview displays a fully rendered version of your selected clips and edits so you can review your montage in real time. When you download you'll have access to all the options available so you can easily export and share your final creation in the format you need.

Important: While start and end cue points are generally accurate, variations in frame rates can occasionally cause words to be clipped on very tight edit points. If this occurs, simply adjust the cue point slightly further along the timeline and preview the montage again for a smooth playback
